RheinTerrassenWeg – hiking trail from Mainz to Worms

Walk 60 km through the magnificent landscape of Rheinhessen. The RheinTerrassenWeg runs high above the Rhine through picturesque wine villages from Mainz to Worms. It is the first long-distance hiking trail in Rheinhessen with many hamlets, small towns and historically significant sites to explore. In seasonal taverns along the way, you can sample the local wine and enjoy other delicacies from Rheinhessen. As the trail roughly follows the route of the local train service, you can always return to your point of departure, for instance if you want to do the RheinTerrassenWeg in stages.


Walks through local vineyards with wine tasting

The wine city of Mainz is located in Rheinhessen, the largest winegrowing region of Germany. Join one of our tour guides for a stroll through the local vineyards, including a wine tasting session. Taste local wines and met winegrowers who can tell you all about their craft and produce. Enjoy unspoilt countryside with and splendid views across the vineyards of Rheinhessen.


Fortified Mainz – walk along the walls and towers of old Mainz

Mainz still has very much the air of a fortified city. Along the route, you learn about the eventful history of the city, which is reflected in its walls and fortifications. The 21 km walk brings you through the city centre and adjacent districts to Kastel. There are 20 points of special interest – from Roman times, to the Middle Ages and the 19th century federal fortification – along the route. They are marked on the map, with detailed explanations in the brochure. The "Festungsroute" brochure is available at the Tourist Service Center at Brückenturm (price € 0.50).


Roman route – explore Roman Mainz

Find out what life in Mainz was like in Roman times. The Roman route covers around 13.5 km and brings you along 19 points of special interest. Everything is explained in detail in the "Römerroute" brochure that also includes a map. The "Römerroute" brochure is available at the Tourist Service Center at Brückenturm (price € 0.50).
