Jupiter Column

The Jupiter Column is more than 9 metres high and tells us a lot about Roman life, politics, and worship. The inscription at its base describes a time of upheaval during the rule of Nero.

The column also shows how both Roman and ancient gods were worshipped side by side, as there are 28 reliefs depicting both Roman and Celtic deities.

The replica erected at the original site of the column has recently been removed as it fell into disrepair. It is now being restored and is to be reinstated soon. The original Jupiter Column is on display at the Mainz State Museum.
