Banks of the Rhine

The Rhine Promenade of Mainz, also known as Adenauer Ufer, runs from the customs port to the old city centre. It is a popular meeting place for young and old. There are benches and lawns to enjoy the view and the sun, as well as various playgrounds for the little ones. Skateboarders and basketball players also find great facilities here. Along the promenade, you will come across the fully restored Raimunditor and Schlosstor facing the river. Right beside Theodor-Heuss-Brücke, the bridge linking the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse, there is the Rheinstrand, a city beach area perfect for a drink or meal with friends and also used as an events venue. Equally popular are the dedicated barbeque areas complete with metal barrels to dispose of the hot ash.
