Electoral Palace

When travelling towards Mainz over Theodor-Heuss-Brücke, the first thing that catches the eye is the Electoral Palace extending 75 metres along the bank of the Rhine. This magnificent late Renaissance building represents the Golden Age of Mainz.
Right beside it, we find the Deutschhaus, the former home of the Teutonic Order in Mainz, and the ancient armoury known as Neues Zeughaus. The clear and pleasing structure of its façade makes the Electoral Palace stand out from these two edifices in the late Baroque style.
The Grand Hall of the palace is known to many people in Germany from the TV broadcast of "Mainz bleibt Mainz, wie es singt und lacht", covering the annual carnival of Mainz.
