Art Exhibition "mainz store"

From July 18, Mainz artist Maria Schwer will be showing paintings from the last 10 years in various styles and painting techniques at mainz STORE. The exhibition "Brücken schlagen" can be viewed during mainz STORE opening hours until the end of October - admission is free.

After the artist's previous exhibition “EllaZeichnet” ended on July 13, the next art show will follow immediately afterwards: From July 18, artist Maria Schwer's exhibition “Brücken schlagen” (Building Bridges) will be on display at mainz STORE - admission is free and possible during opening hours (Mon-Sat, 10am-6pm).
Maria Schwer presents paintings from the last 10 years in different styles and painting techniques, inspired by various workshops with different painters. Her large landscape paintings in the line structure were created in 2017 based on photos from a vacation in France. These photos served as a template for arranging colors and brightness with acrylic paints on the canvas. In some cases, she chose the actual colors for her paintings, in others she arranged them more freely. The landscape structures and lighting conditions can be recognized by the chosen colors and line structure. This resulted in a whole series of corresponding paintings.

A series of further landscapes were created after a workshop with Michael Apitz in 2015. The multiple application of the acrylic paints creates a plasticity and more luminosity. One of the motifs is a Rhine landscape, which was also created by applying different color combinations.

The Mainz motifs shown (including St. Martin's Cathedral and the Theodor Heuss Bridge) are painted “plein air” from the banks of the Rhine in Kastel. For the motif “Mainz by night in the glow of light”, the existing structures of the buildings, the banks of the Rhine and the Rhine were first prepared on dark blue paper in daylight. Then - in the dark - the artist painted all the darks in black as well as the lights and the shining lights in their corresponding colors.

Background

Since the opening of the mainz STORE in November 2021, regular (mostly free) exhibitions have been taking place on the first floor of the modern Tourist Information. The upcoming exhibition "Colours and Views of the City" at the mainz STORE will run from 20 June to 01 August 2023.
