School groups

Book a bespoke guided tour for your school class! Our qualified tour guides cover a range of different topics. They take the pupils’ ages into account and tailor the tour to suit their age group. The maximum group size per guide is 30 pupils.

Gutenberg Museum - The World Museum of Printing

On this guided tour of the Gutenberg Museum, you’ll see how printing was done in Gutenberg’s day during a demonstration on the historic printing press. In the vault, you’ll see the original Gutenberg Bible. Afterwards, you’ll admire further exhibits from the permanent exhibition ‘Gutenberg Museum MOVED’ in the nave.

Mainz: The Golden City

A guided tour through Mainz’s history from its beginnings to the present day: from Roman times, via the cathedral and the old town, to the modern city centre. For over 1,000 years, St. Martin’s Cathedral and its ‘cathedral hill’ have dominated the cityscape. The tour then takes you through the historic old town with its half-timbered houses, winding alleyways and picturesque squares.

In the footsteps of Gutenberg ...

The guided tour combines a visit to the Gutenberg Museum with stops at sites in the city linked to Johannes Gutenberg’s life. You will experience the printing of a page from the Bible in the museum workshop and see the famous Gutenberg Bible. The tour then takes you to places associated with his life, including his birthplace, the church where he was baptised, printing houses, his later residence and his final resting place.

Rally for children and teenagers

The city rally brings Mainz’s history to life in a fun way. You’ll explore historical questions, solve puzzles and discover details in the cityscape. Working in teams, you’ll discover the content for yourselves. If you wish, a tour guide can accompany the rally and provide additional information.

Mogontiacum - The Roman Mainz

The Roman settlement of Mogontiacum shaped Mainz for centuries. This guided tour shows how a legionary camp developed into an important city in the province of Upper Germania. The tour begins at the Roman theatre, leads to the funerary monument of Drusus and continues to the late-antique Roman gate on the Kästrich.

Magenza – Jewish Mainz – One of the three ShUM cities

Jewish history has shaped Mainz for many centuries. This guided tour traces the history of Jewish life from the Cathedral, via Klarastraße and the State Museum, to the New Synagogue and the Feldberg School. Mainz is one of the ShUM cities, whose significant Jewish heritage was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021.
